August is that time of year when I get wistful
about summer…the light starts to change, the nights are cool, the
mosquitoes and black flies are history (for a year). It’s
perfect…and it will be over so soon. In the Chapter office this time
of year we are very busy lining up programs for the coming year,
including our annual conference. This year we are offering something new—a chance to register for the conference this month, by internet only, and save even more money than with the Early-Bird special, which will start September 1 (both on-line and by mail). Although our communications with members have become mostly electronic, in late August we will mail to members a package of information containing: • PACE Committee endorsements • Continuing Education Programs for FY2011 • Registration form for the Annual Conference • Update on the Chapter’s Finances • Request to update your email address so you can get the full value from your membership Watch for this package! Other activities that have occupied us this summer include relinquishing half of our office space. This saves us $500 per month, which is critical if we are to stay afloat and “in the black.” It is the right thing to do. But Betsy and I are adjusting and figuring out how this will work. I am working from home about half the time and am in the office mainly to communicate with Betsy. The office is reliably staffed M-T-W mornings by Betsy until 1:30. If you call at other times, please leave a message and one of us will try to call you back within a day.
