Champlain BSW Students Engage with the Community

In addition to their coursework and field assignment, the Champlain College Social Work Club has been busy responding to community needs this fall.  They formed a team to participate in the Out of the Darkness fund-raising walk for Suicide Prevention Week and have pledged to raise at least $100 for the cause. Some funds came from walk pledges. Students have also gone out offering their services raking leaves in the Champlain neighborhood and held a bake sale.

Tawnya McDonald, LICSW, Program Director (and an NASW-VT Board member), reports that some students are again knitting and crocheting hats and scarves that are destined for rural families (through rural health clinics) and the Burlington Emergency Shelter. Donations of yarn from others at the College have been generous in support of this effort. Those who don't know how to knit or crochet and want to learn have help at hand among their peers.
