The Chapter PACE—Political Action for Candidate Election—Committee has met, selected a chair and secretary/treasurer and is ready to begin work.

Committee Chair for the 2008-2009 period is Sara Chase.  Secretary/Treasurer roles will be filled by Doug Bugbee.

It is not too late to join the committee and help to determine which state and local candidates deserve our financial and other support in this big election year.

We are especially interested in finding members from the southern section of the state and the most northern sections of the state, but the Committee is open to all.

PACE is funded not by dues but from separate contributions NASW members make. The funds are shared equally between National NASW and the chapters.

This is what is involved for committee members:

• · Elect the chair and secretary/treasurer

• · Attend meetings or participate in conference calls and

• · Help select candidates to endorse and to support financially in their campaigns.

• · Act as trustees of the Chapter’s PACE funds

• · Help mobilize the social work vote.

• · The Committee develops a timeline and plan for evaluating candidates and making decisions about endorsements and contributions.  The PACE Committee is fully authorized to carry out its plan without further Board approval.

NASW-VT’s Social Work Reinvestment Plan calls for important legislative measures such as loan forgiveness and improved professional identification.

We need to elect officeholders who will support our values and goals and the fullest recognition of professional social work in Vermont.
