Social Work License Reciprocity Questions

NASW-VT receives several calls a month about license reciprocity with other states. In Vermont where we have only one license, which is clinical and independent, there is technically no automatic reciprocity. Each inquiry is treated on an individual basis by the Office of Professional Regulation, Vermont Secretary of State http://www.vtprofessionals.org/opr1/social_workers/).  As a rule, if the licensee from another state has met the same standards of education and supervision as Vermont license-holders, Vermont will honor or “endorse” the out-of -state license.

The Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) has a comparison chart of state licensing requirements that interested parties may wish to consult. The direct link is:  http://www.datapathdesign.com/ASWB/Laws/prod/cgi-bin/LawWebRpts2DLL.dll/EXEC/0/0st25yd1w98itz1fi7ede0tsayba
