CHAPTER DESCRIPTION:
Vermont is one of 55 chapters of the National Association of
Social Workers (NASW) (including Hawaii and an international
chapter), the professional organization for all graduate (MSW)
and undergraduate (BSW) social workers. Membership of the
Vermont Chapter is just under 500 with representation across the
spectrum of the field including, for example, medical, school,
home health care, and clinical social work. With our main office
in Montpelier directly across from the State House, we are well
positioned to advocate for the needs and interests of our
members. To do this, we have an elected Board of Directors, an
Executive Director, Administrative Assistant, and several
Committees and Task Forces, including Legislative, Education &
Professional Development, Clinical Social Work, and Political
Action for Candidate Election (PACE) Committees, as well as a
Committee on Inquiry (committee descriptions and mission
statements are available on request). Our primary goal is to
serve and support our members in the pursuit of their
profession.
MISSION STATEMENT:
"We support, enhance, and facilitate communication across the
spheres of community, agency, and clinical social work. We honor
the unique culture of Vermont and value the diversity of culture
in our state and in our profession. We support members through
legislative advocacy and committee work within our organization.
Our Chapter promotes and respects social justice,
self-determination, human rights, diversity, and
interdependence."
